Family from Warrnambool discovers great fitting lingerie

February 1 2019

A day out at Just Lovely: three generations, three very different fittings

Every so often a family comes through our doors in Colac and needs almost everything at once. The lovely family, who made the trip in from Warrnambool recently, were a geat example of just how different every fitting can be, even within the one family.

Sophie’s first bra

Thirteen year old Sophie is heading into year 7 this year, and along with all the other changes that come with starting high school, it was time to swap the summer crop tops for a proper first bra. We know this milestone can feel like a big deal, for mums as much as daughters, so we let Sophie take her time browsing before anything else happened. Once she felt ready, we took her measurements and walked her through how to actually put a bra on properly, something that isn’t as obvious as it sounds the first time around. Sophie left with a pretty pink wire free bra and a fair bit more confidence than she walked in with.

Olivia’s re-fit

Fifteen year old Olivia, who splits her time between school, netball and horse riding, had well and truly outgrown her first bras. We spent some time chatting with her about how her body had changed and why a proper supportive underwire matters once you’ve moved past those early years. Olivia ended up with everyday t-shirt bras for school, plus a high impact sports bra built for netball training and riding.

Mum sorted, and a trip planned for Nan

With the girls taken care of, it was mum Carolyn’s turn. She had a fundraising dinner coming up in two weeks and a gorgeous off the shoulder dress that needed the right strapless bra and some discreet shapewear underneath. While the girls tried a few of our hand cremes, Carolyn had a browse through our mature age lingerie range, thinking of Nan. By the time they left, a return trip with Nan was already on the cards.

It’s exactly this kind of visit we love, three generations, three completely different needs, all sorted under one roof.

Frequently asked questions

Q: What age should a girl get her first bra?

A: There’s no set age, it depends on the individual. Many girls start around 11 to 13, but the right time is whenever they feel ready, not a specific birthday.

Q: How do I know if my daughter needs a new bra size?

A: Signs include straps digging in, the band riding up, or the bra generally looking too small. Growing girls often need refitting every 6 to 12 months.

Q: What’s the difference between a wire free and underwire bra for teens?

A: Wire free bras suit younger girls or first bras, offering gentle shape with no rigid support. Underwire bras give more structure and are usually introduced as a girl’s body develops further.

Q: Do you fit sports bras as well as everyday bras?

A: Yes, we fit both. High impact sports bras are especially important for activities like netball or riding, where proper support helps prevent discomfort and long term strain.

Q: Do you stock lingerie and sleepwear for older women too?

A: Yes, we carry a lovely range of mature sleepwear, robes and lingerie, alongside our everyday and special occasion ranges, so there’s something for every generation.
